Just watched a clip on Utube from Windswept Robert and he was talking about the new rules coming in next year He stated that everybody flying a Drone over 100 gram will have to take the 40 question test in order to fly it.He also said that the new drone markings coming in will allow the flying of any drone up to 900 Grams as we can fly a 249 gram drone.
Wondered if anybody else has heard about these new rules or are they still in the dark ??? Please let me know…
The rules will probably come into force. Do not worry about the 40 question exam, its all very straight forward and down to common sense in most cases. I took the test about 18 months ago when I got my first drone. I read it up for about 15 minutes then took the on line test, I think I got about 85% with not much effort. I believe the pass mark is pretty low anyway.
Agreed.
I call the FPV UK CofC Drone Law (which gets you a Flyer ID) a quiz, rather than a test.
It’s a quiz, designed to teach you the knowledge. As against a test.
You can take as long as you want, you can do it as many times as you want, and you can even look up the answers if you want to (but you won’t need to, the correct answer is pretty obvious - because it’s a teaching tool, rather than a testing tool).
Don’t panic. The test isn’t that hard if you read the materials.
I also know someone who had the test/quiz open in one tab and the reading material in the other.
Hi I did the 40 question test was not too bad mostly common sense and a bit of knowledge
Good luck
Hi @Pick19! Welcome to FPV UK.
Great to have you with us.
Yes, I agree. The test is mostly common sense.
As I remember when I took mine you only had to get 30 right. Is it still the same ???
Yes, that’s true.
I found it a quite good teaching aid.
Yes your correct you need 30/40
That sounds like good news to me, the 40 question test is not a problem, just basic common sense stuff, Its done on line, plenty of time to think about each answer and look up the answers with another device if you have one handy.
Simon. I did the 40 question test and found it common sense. It runs out this December. Do you know if I can just renew it or do we have to take the test again ??? Cheers.
You have to take the test again. It lasts 5 years and is free.
Hi there i did the test few days ago mainly common sense questions was very easy dont stress
I need to read up on this.
None of my drones have a C0 rating. Even my 65g Cetus X - a real danger to the public!
In fact I’m holding off buying a little cinewhoop until next year so I have at least one legit piece of kit.
If you live in the country, you might be lucky as there should be a selling surge as folks upgrade to keep their rights. But I don’t ![]()
Has anyone seen any drones adverised as having the C0 designation or is it too early?
This will finally give me the kick up the butt I need to join FPV UK.
stop Procrastinating and JOIN!
The only reason I haven’t is that I’ve been using ChatGPT to plan my flying strategy. It sometimes says that Article 16 / insurance apply only to club events and designated sites. Other times it says they are UK-wide.
Also, Article 16 wouldn’t really help in my area as there are overriding bylaws and SSSIs.
Like a lot of people have mentioned a lot is common sense for the Flyer ID and highlights the key things you should know. Introducing this for any drone over 100g in my opinion also means there is a record people are aware of the key elements of flying responsibly.
Insurance applies anywhere in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Norway, Switzerland and all of the 27 EU countries.
Article 16 applies anywhere in the UK.
We have never had a ‘club event’, so the insurance being limited to those would be a bit of an issue!
