13" carbon fibre drone frames

On the GPS page you should get a list of satellites, even if they aren’t locked. This will help validate the Comms between the GPS and the micro. What power rail are you powering the GPS from? I usually use the 4.5V so I can keep it posted from USB.

Thanks JP, there are no satellites listed thus far, I’m going to set it up again outside to see if it will get any at all today.

Yes Power = 4.5v as it was the one next to UART 1 pads on the FC.

I deleted the contents of the flash as mentioned, I did it finally.

I’m going to do a factory reset and set one thing at a time to see where the issue lie, then set it up outside…

I’ll let you know how it pans out…

Honestly, this is starting to sound like a GPS issue. Do you have another module you can test with?

No, unfortunately not, I think I’m going to unplug the GPS module and get the rest of it working, then plug in the GPS, then if there’s an issue, it’s conclusive…

How does that sound?

Just disable the port.

I had another look at the pictures you sent through. Is there damage on the antenna? The are ceramic and prone to fracture which would mean no signal…

The GPS antenna? I’ll have a close look and get back to you…

Yes. Or do you have a different quad you could try?

No other homebuild to try on unfortunately.
The antenna on the GPS appears ok, will dig out a magnifying glass later and check again, just to be sure.

For now, I’m going to disable the GPS module and get the rest of it configured and working - HOPEFULLY!

Morning All…

I spent a restless night thinking about this Project (for want of a better description) and have come to the conclusion that it’s taken way too much time and effort to get nowhere! In answer to your question @jpmreece Have I flown it yet? - No, it’s only been in the garden twice to try to obtain a GPS lock, it’s not even had props on, their still in their packet!

I will be revisiting this in a little while as I don’t like unfinished things… But for now I’m going to sort out the mess that was my desk and workbench in an attempt to bring some semblance or order back to it all.

I can’t thank all who have assisted and provided thoughts, comments advice and feedback it has been very much appreciated, and if it’s ok, I’ll call on you again if necessary when this project gets the dusk blown off! Thank You All…

I’ll likely start a new thread and link this one to it when I get going again.

Just arrived! A real beast!

Yeah, fair play.

A few days off the project will probably work wonders!

That is a beast!

8S 12,000mAh 70C?

How much does it weigh? I can’t make out the numbers on your scales.

nope, it’s 6S and comes in at 1640g. Just have to work out how to setup the new charger/balancer but no real hurry…

Edit: In a word, it weighs too much, and the shape is not good, wanted longer and slimmer…

Currently in two LiPo safes on my desk!

Oops. Damn.

Yep, It’s going to have to hang underneath, I think it will balance better there. What do you think @SimonDale ?

I am going to check the weight on another set of scales just to be sure, it was listed as 1545 I think it was, probably with a +/- bit not sure…

Busy tidying up the mess on my desk and bench, back later or tomorrow…

Underslung sounds legit to me. (Although I am no expert in such things).

Don’t forget, it’s supposed to be fun. Take some time and chill.

The GPS think won’t stop the quad flying, it just helps rescue and orientation. Get in touch as and when you need support. If you’re near Wiltshire, I’m happy to help.

Many thanks JP, but I’m in south Lincolnshire…

and yes, I’ll shout when I pick up the project again if things don’t go smoothly - Thanks

An alternative to Betaflight is iNav…
