Connector? For an antenna?
No, comms
Cirocomm side up.
Thanks @SimonDale
Is it going to be ok located on the front of the craft above the camera?
With the battery doing to take up most of the top the very front is about the only place it could go.
Which leads me to another question, the battery is a big one - 6S, 12,000mAh, 70C weighing in at 1545g +/- a bit and at 177x71x60mm it is a bit of a beast!
I’d appreciate your thoughts, or anyone else’s I have thought of putting it underneath, but that will complicate things as I haven’t worked out how I’m going to attach the landing legs yet…
My plan, if all goes well, is to add a second battery, which will make it fly almost forever! Well nearly…
Guys…
I just spotted what I think is a problem. BetaFlight shows “DataFlash: free 0B” I’m guessing this will stop any further config changes being written? If so this may explain why fixing one thing appears to brake another thing.
Is there a fix for this?
TIA
Your GPS location should be ok. It would be better at the rear, especially for the compass, but it should work.
What fight controller are you using? I’ve not seen data flash at 0 before. But if it programs simply enabling the GPS should not cause it not to work. It’s more of a RAM or loop time issue. With a large quad with many sensors, an F4 co u might be getting full. The data flash might also relate to the black box. I’ll pull out BF later on and have a look.
Thanks JP, the FC is an F405 with an ICM42688P Gyro, I’m out this morning, later I’m going to disable some of the options for the OSD and see if that helps, and I’ll try tweaking some other things to reduce data in the FC/settings. If necessary I’ll reset and start again which should empty the flash if I’m not wring…
Thanks again for the assistance…
Ok, F405 should have 1MB of flash so no problem there. What is the CPU utilisation?
Do you have a laptop you can take out with the quad too look at the GPS and what satellites it can see?
It might be worth enabling the ground assist. I think that’s in the 2025-10 build that is currently an RC.
Hi JP. I’m in the garden with an OLD but working laptop, the CPU shows at 23%, so no issues there.
After 40 minutes the GPS still hasn’t got a lock! I’m guessing there’s a problem with something.
Ground mode is only available under an option that does not allow the GPS to register at all.
I don’t have any idea where to go next…?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
How do I connect to the GPS?
I’ve had GPSs take a couple of hours to get a first fix before. (I am going back quite a few years though).
We’re used to our phones getting a fix really quickly, but they cheat by getting data from the local cell towers to get started (A-GPS).
A “cold start” requires the receiver to acquire both the general almanac (information on the entire constellation of satellites) and the specific ephemeris data (precise orbital and clock data for each satellite).
That’s not to say it couldn’t be connected incorrectly / configured incorrectly causing the issue. It’s hard to know.
I guess you could try and connect it directly to your computer and see what information it is sending/receiving. It will be using NMEA protocol, and the NMEA sentences should give you a clue as to what is going on. That might get quite complex though…leaving your drone in your garden another hour or so would be my first suggestion.
I haven’t used Betaflight.
Is there some kind of console or diagnostics screen where you might be able to see more details?
That may be the issue, it’s not configured to use that protocol…
Watch this space…
I could be wrong…But worth a try.
Good reply Simon, it was my thought but I’ve been busy all day ( got the Pavo into the air )
Didn’t work, blanked all settings in the SPG and Ports pages
Is there some kind of console or diagnostics screen where you might be able to see more details?
Searching for debug type log option now…
Got the log file, it is saved into the flash memory, which may explain why it’s showing as full. I’m going to save it to file then delete it from the flash, see if it frees some memory…
The log file is just over 65k lines and 1 million characters!
Edit: Not deleting it yet, I can now view logs in the BetaFlight Blackbox viewer, however, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of info about the setup/config…
The logs will have to go as they’re quite big! - Need the space.
