What was the first drone you flew?

Wondering how long people have been in the hobby? My dad bought me a cheapie stocking filler years ago and i’ve been hooked ever since!

I have always wanted to fly model planes or helicopters, but back then the price made them out of reach. I got a toy drone from Argos about 5 years ago but never took it out and it was an absolute pain to try and fly indoors. I got a mini 2 se in September 23 but only went as far as the front yard and made it hover for about 15 20 minutes and that was it. Fell ill through 24 so it was a no no. Am still on the mend but got a 4 pro and am hoping to get my other half and son involved so we can go and fly!!

Relativly new to the hobby with a mini 4 pro bought a few weeks ago. Although have flown rc planes and heli’s off n on all my life. Did have a drone about a decade ago. Toy one really, didnt have a camera and no automation. Had to be manually flown all the time… the rc experience helped !

It depends on your definition of ‘drone’. Arguably mine was a Ben Buckle high wing IC model back in the day. It had opening doors on the belly for radio gear and one day, they opened in flight and the receiver battery fell to the ground.

The aircraft continued in a gentle turn with sufficient revs to maintain its altitude. We jumped in the car and followed it. It got about 15 miles and then ran out of fuel and landed, quite neatly, on a disused airfield.

We then went back to the flying field and found the battery, wrapped in foam and, remarkably, unscathed!

What fun!

My first multi-rotor was an Xaircraft X600D in January 2010. Here is a video of it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OT5Wh1CfH3s

Then it was a Gaui X330. Then Flamewheels and Nazas. And WooKongs. Then the first Phantom…and the rest is history.
