What got you into FPV flying?
Was it:
• Freestyle?
• Cinematic flying?
• Racing?
• YouTube videos?
• Or just wanting an expensive new hobby like the rest of us?
Would be good to hear what everyone started with and what setup you’re currently flying now. Bonus points for first-crash stories too!

I believe DJI makes a quad drone called ‘DJI FPV’ I don’t know if they still make it but it’s supposed to be the fastest drone they’ve made. I have an avata2. I would like to buy the FPV but can’t find it anywhere.

It’s an old done and didn’t get great reviews. Plus repair was a nightmare. I doubt you could find one now…

Yeah it’s a pretty terrible drone. Pretty heavy for the power it has, handles like a bus, and super fragile. I’ve had two of them, one ended up at the bottom of a canal (my fault, flying it LOS while my niece watched in the goggles) and the other is permanently grounded, mounted on my wall as a reminder to never buy another one.
I’ve had broken arms and gimbals torn off from crashes that my five inch quads would’ve laughed off, and although I’ve fixed them they’re a huge pain to work on compared to a regular quad and parts are either expensive or hard to come by.
To top it all off you obviously can’t do much in the way of tuning them or customising them, and you’re stuck using the (atrocious) DJI FPV RC transmitter and (better but not great) FPV V2 goggles.
You can usually find them on eBay for about a hundred and fifty quid (without goggles, transmitter or batteries) but my advice would be don’t bother. Get a real quad instead if you want to fly FPV.

Yeah they did, the DJI FPV. Fast in a straight line but honestly more of a hybrid drone than a proper FPV quad. Think DJI stopped making them now, so most you’ll find are second hand on eBay or Marketplace. If you’ve already got an Avata 2, you’re probably better off looking at a real custom FPV build next
Don’t get scared of custom builds. It’s really enjoyable and the results are awesome.

Custom builds are great for you clever people, but I’m 74 years old and too long in the tooth to learn how to build them. It took me a year just to fly them. I tend to stick with DJI because I know I can rely on them and the care refresh is worth having when things go wrong. I’m lucky that my mini 4 pro, avata2 and my neo all work with goggles3. I fly most days British weather permitting and I often fly at night.
