I’ve not really done much,if any video editing but I’d like to give it a try.Any suggestions as to what software to use?

Davinci Resolve is great, but has a very steep learning curve for a beginner. Try Capcut, there is a free version which is great for basic editing and has plenty of youtube videos for any help you may need.
cheers,I am a complete beginner and to be honest,I don’t plan on doing much editing or sharing for that matter as I only plan to shoot video for my own enjoyment
Depends what OS you’re using on your PC etc
If windows,then theres a couple of free ones out there,VLC is pretty basic,and its free 
If using linux(as i do) theres a list as long as your arm,again,all free 
best do a google on free video editor software,once again,loads out there,esp free ones
