I’ve bought a small drone and done the CAA stuff.
I want to do the right thing and be aware of any flight restrictions/warnings etc.
I’ve had a look at Dronemap, but what’s confusing is the plethora of warning types e.g. Elevated Risk, Restricted Area, Danger Area, Flight Restriction etc. etc.
My question is what do I actually do for each of these, or is the action determined by the colour coding e.g. Red = no fly, Amber = take extra care etc…??
@martinwilkinso-j8w9v Hi martin. Not sure were you intend to fly ? some yellow area’s are sssi so please do your homework disturbing or altering wildlife behaviour can be deemed reckless flying.
Countryside wildlife act 1981 something you don’t want to be involved with…just another thing to be mindful when looking at the Drone map
Hi,
I have seen an app called Drone Companion that looks simple enough, although it needs to be installed from the Drone Companion website. You get a free short trial and then it’s about £50 per year, or less than £1 a week. The next time I go out with the drone I am going to activate the trial.
Red = Restriction - don’t fly there without getting permission. Just click on the shape to read all about it - including who to contact to get permission.
Yellow = Elevated Risk, there is something here you should be aware of. A crane, or a nature reserve, or a helicopter landing site, or a gliding club, for example. Just click on the shape to read all about it.
Blue = upcoming restriction. It’s not active now, but at the times specified this will be a restricted area. Click on it to read all about it.
Purple = SSSI in place for flying insects. It may be prudent to avoid an area like this, since the law requires that you do not disturb wildlife.
