Hello all. New here and to drones in general. Just had a question I wanted to clear up. I work as a rope access technician and would like to utilise using a drone at work. I am using a Neo 2 and have bought the insurance. Am I correct in believing all should be good to use it at work as it is under 250 grams and I have the cover?

Check the CAA regs for how close that drone category can be from a building. I think it’s 50m in a built-up area and 30m if you are a Drone Hub member with our additional authorisation.
From a risk perspective, I think there was something in the A2 training about down-drafts close to tall buildings and prop wash (turbulance caused by reflected thrust) seriously affecting control in that scenario. Well worth looking into for your and your drone’s safety.
I did look into that and being under 250, it can be flown in residential, recreational, commercial and industrial areas. Just wanted to make sure I was good to use it at work.

Have you tried using it around buildings outside of work?
I’ve done roof inspections with a Mini 3 Pro and it gets blown about a bit.
Sweet. Got all that already and got the insurance as a back-up. Yeah I have done a bit of flying round buildings and didn’t have many problems. Would just be handy to not have to go all the way up a building to check steels and get a reading of how much rope we need. Plus get some good shots of us on the ropes aha.
Sounds like a cool job. Did you get into it through rock climbing? How high do you go up?
It has its perks. No, not a fan of rock climbing. On average only about 26-30 meters. Sometimes higher and sometimes lower. All depends on the job as you could imagine.
