I’m new to this and would like some clarification regarding taking off with my drone from a public footpath. Looking online, I’m finding conflicting information: Dronemap.uk says it’s allowed, while other sources suggest it isn’t. I thank you in advance for any clarification that might help me comply with the rules.
If it’s a public right of way through private land then take-off and landing is only possible with the land owners permission. If it’s public land then you’re fine. And use https://thedronemap.com/ for flight restriction information ![]()
Hi
I must admit as a new flyer I’ve looked at the map app and it gives information about CAA rules and restrictions but even if ok with them it comes down to council bylaws and drone policy.
Seems a lot of local councils don’t allow to take off
It seems that a lot of potential flight sites don’t allow it.
Any advice appreciated.
I’m in the Lancashire area
I often use public rights of way as TOAL sites always checking first for any “no drones” signs and, of course, DroneMap. I have only once been told I can’t take off so I didn’t. No hassle, no argument. I went into the adjacent field which I told was OK and flew from there.
Hello,
It can be tricky and require quite a bit of investigation at times. Websites such as local councils, Natural England, National Trust etc all have info on their websites about drones. The Drone Map has info on it for local parks etc and that’ll give you some pointers as to where to look for additional details.
I think if you’re flying responsibly (or early or late when people aren’t around) and someone approaches you because you are on private land, but didn’t realise then hopefully it would just be a civilised conversation asking you to land and stop. The problem comes when people think they’re entitled to be there and argue back.
Good luck
