Seems like since I got the new drone the weather has been poor.
Managed a 30min windows tonight while the winds dropped to about 20mph and manage to get some practice in with my first night flight with the confirmation about green lights and also my first ever hyperlapse shoot.
Couldnt stay any longer as both high winds and rain coming back in but very happy with first attempt
Geeksvana covered it the other day on YouTube. Its around trying to clarify if the built in lights on the DJI are suitable to meet the requirements of a green light for night flight.
@DroneDad According to the last Geeksvana update CAA are aware that DJI drones turn off the green lights when recording, this won’t make the drone non compliant, so the take from that is if you were stopped by the police CAA policy in this case would be you’re still compliant as the lights would reactivate when you don’t record.
Best practice would be in this scenario is to keep VLOS (have a spotter with you if you can), put the drone up in non record mode, then record the bits you need, turn off record, and bring the drone back to land with the lights showing.
I guess DJI would need to do some firmware update to allow the green lights to remain on while recording.
Hello @MarcusB Thank you for the relevant information you provided
I just had a look at the requirements of the green flashing lights and i have noticed that the DJI mini 5pro while recording at night turns off the green flashing lights but this does not affect the DJI mini 4pro?? Maybe dJI need to drop a software update for this so this would then comply with the CAA recommend requirements at flying at night for the Dji mini 5pro or are you not permitted to fly at night with the mini 5pro??
I belive they also covered that the 5 pro was the subject of the request as its esier to be specific but it would cover C0 not just mini 5 if im not mistaken
I think the CAA response shown referred to C0 even though the request was narrowed to the Mini 5 Pro. I think as @MarcusB has said the maintenance of VLOS is going to be a key factor for night flight in my opinion.
I would personaly like a firmware update from dji to allow me to activate the lights when recording.
I had to circle over my head to see and was thankfull for the lights coming back on as soon as not recording as made so much esier to see.
As the hyperlapse is photos this was easy as the light stayed on
Ive just finnished taking another one. So far ive only been able to do short ones i keep practicing in the same spot since i can take off and land in my garden and still have porfect line of site where i need to fly.
I know the guidance has changed regarding recording since the light goes off, so i can record, but as i find it easier to keep vlos with the lights on i find hyperlapse good for practicing at night while I’m still learning to fly
I’ll upload tonight’s short clip when processed
Loving flying my mini pro 4 just wish there were nice days to practice
