What are people’s preferences of where to insert a SD card,drone or controller? Does it make a difference?
@Pondlife Hi Robert
I have a mini 4pro and i have two Micro sd cards one for the drone and the other for my RC 2 controller the one in the controller is for recording your screen information if you ever need it. Also having good micro Sd cards as always helped me.
I currently use these sd cards.
I would agree with that. Both is the best option.
My Mini 3 has one in both, don’t know why, just ended up that way when setting up for first flight.
However, many of the problems I’ve had with my RM TX15 Max have been resolved by removing the one that was in there. That said, being new to the TX15, I wasn’t aware that there was loads of stuff meant to be on the SD card. By removing it, the ‘Default SD card’ became visible, thus solving the problems.
Thats the card I have,came with the combo.I just wondered if the quality of video or photos was affected by having the card in the controller rather than the drone.Reason for asking is in case of fly away or crash and loss,you’d have the footage in your hand rather than lost with the drone
Not at that price! I use these, much cheaper and just as good…
@MDSteve Yes they are just as good
But i prefer to pay that bit extra ![]()
To be fair,I don’t think I would pay that price either but mine came with the combo
I mostly fly FPV, with a mix of analog, O3 and O4 air units. My analog drones have no on-board recording so I just record the goggles feed there, but for the DJI air units I have cards in both the goggles and the air unit.
In the case of those units, the on-board recording is 4K and I have RockSteady stabilisation enabled. The goggles recording is either 720p (O3) or 1080p (O4) and unstabilised. I generally use the on-board footage when editing, but as you say the goggles footage can be useful should the worst happen and you lose your drone (like that one time I flew a DJI FPV into a canal
). I’ve also found in useful in retrieving a lost drone (although the goggles always cache the last 30secs on a loop anyway for that very purpose, storing it automatically on signal loss).
For my Air 3S, I again have SD in both the controller and the drone, and for the same reason. The Air 3S (and I suspect the modern Minis) use O4 for transmission, and AFAIK the footage recorded in the RC is limited to 1080p and unstabilised, whereas the onboard is 4K and the same optional RockSteady stabilisation as the O4 air unit. The primary footage is the on-board, with the controller footage acting as a backup.
(Edited to add that FWIW I use SanDisk Extreme Pro SDs across the board, they’re excellent as long as you get them from a reputable retailer to avoid the many fakes. Sadly though they’re not cheap now that memory prices have shot up recently).
