Question for the techy folk

Hi guys,

I have a Mini 3 with an RC2 controller.

I also have a 3 year old Meta Quest 3 VR headset (that’s very rarely used).

I’ve googled briefly and apparently the VR headset can be modified to work as an FPV headset with my drone. By side loading DJI Fly software to it?

I wondered if anyone has had first hand experience of doing this please?

I’m professionally techy enough to pull this off but if anyone’s done this themselves, I’d be very interested to hear if anyone can offer specific advice on the procedure please…and any potential pitfalls?

Thank you.

It sounds simple enough.

You just need to get the APK file for the DJI app (usually this is a step, but in this case it’s on DJI’s website so that’s easy).

Then you open that on the Android device in question. You may need to install a file manager app first to locate the file and open it, and you will almost certainly need to turn on ‘Allow installs from unofficial sources’ to allow it to run.

It should be that simple.

Yes I’ll still have the .apk file on my phone from when I installed it there. I can get it easily onto my pc too and transfer via cable.

I’m mainly curious about whether the VR controllers will be the control method for flying (instead of the RC2). Also the Comms connection between the headset and drone. These are all things that aren’t readily available.

I’m a little nervous about the Meta Quests capabilities tbh. Seen lots of horror stories about software side loading issues when it even comes to games etc. Not sure if I’d be comfortable letting it fly a drone.

I’ll keep digging. :ok_hand:t3:

I would worry about the latency of the Quest goggle. Let us know how it works out.

Exactly the type of thing I would worry about . Amongst many others no doubt. :joy:

Perhaps I should sell the Quest and put the money towards some goggles instead and play safe
