New member from the Northeast

Just got my first serious drone. I’ve had quite a few little cheap quads over the years but my first couple of RC aircraft were helicopters. I’m by no means an expert and the photography side is brand new to me.

Anyway, I went with the Avata 2 Fly More plus with an additional battery and the Controller 3. First proper flight was Monday after practicing inside the Inverness Travelodge over the weekend. I’m working away in Scotland at the moment so I brought the drone with me, got permission off the manager of a golf course (if you don’t ask you don’t get) and had an absolute blast! All 4 berries spent!

Almost wrecked hard on a pole and strayed a little too far out above the driving range, almost becoming a target. The 9-hole course was pretty safe as it was quiet. Ended up with some decent footage.

What I’ve noticed is that the DJI app shows a lot of restricted air zones in the Highlands (pretty much the entirety of it) and I’m not sure why. The drone still takes off though. I missed a great chance to fly at Fort William due to the wind and rain over the past couple of days; it seems I always choose hobbies that are reliant on fair weather.

Over all I think this is going to be a great hobby. I’m constantly inspired by the places I visit while working and plan to integrate the drone into my job as it will open up some unique opportunities.

Great to be here!

Welcome to the forum, a friendly and helpful bunch. Also relatively new to flying drones having come from RC planes and heli’s. Have a couple of conventional drones as well as the little broher to yours the Neo MOTION.

Best giude to flight restricions is the Drone Assist app. I always check on it before flying anywhere.

Hi @Wearfield

Welcome to DroneHub! It’s great to have you onboard!

Avata 2 is great - I fly one myself.

Well done for getting permission to fly on the golf course. Do you have any footage to share?

Thanks

Simon
