Kit for a 9 year old

Does anyone have experience of whoop kits? My son has built a Pavo but it’s yet to get a vtx. I’m trying to work out the best way to get him in the air with his own kit.

I’m thinking a lot might be the easiest (and cheapest) way, rather than buying transmitter, vtx and goggles separately.

The caddx accent looks interesting…

You mean the Protos Kit?
Looks like a good place to start. And there’s UK stock so it would come in time for Xmas.

Yes. It looks interesting…

I started out on a whoop kit and I still have it - mostly to play around with different props, batteries and Betaflight settings as I’m quite used to how it handles.

Here’s a few thoughts.
Pros:
It’s a boxed bundle, so easier to remember all the bits
Less hassle than buying separates
Controllers tend to be on the small side, so better for small hands
The protos onboard sensors will save on crashes
Great price for a digital setup
ELRS allows expansion to grown-up radios

Cons:
Proprietary battery format
No betaflight
Ascent is new - not much community support and few real reviews
An analogue separates setup would still give more value, performance and upgradability. Could be harder to learn, although kids have better reflexes and adapt much faster.

Thank you for that. He has a Pavo without a vtx right now that he’s flying this person. He’s desperate to be able to race my Pavo so he needs goggles, vtx and controller. The bundle option looks like a good route.

If he just wants to fly the Pavo, an analog VTX, goggles and Radiomaster Pocket could work out cheaper.
You’ve probably seen Oscar Liang’s review.

This is the decision I’m working on.

He’s got used to my digital system but analog might be good.
