Just joined, not a lot of confidence and maybe too much consideration

Hello from the North East coast and river Tyne.

I currently have 3 DJI drones in the Hangar a DJI Flip, a newly bought Avata 360 and a Neo 2 (inc RC-2 and Goggles N3 and motion controller to switch between the 3). Admittedly I probably don’t need the Flip these days but they don’t sell for an awful lot, so I’m hanging onto it as my daughter has shown some interest in them recently.

I consider myself a newbie, I dabbled a couple of years back with a Mini 4k and accumulated about 14 hours flying on that, having done a tour of the West of the UK, from Cornwall up to Oban.. I was fairly competent with it and produced some decent footage with only 1 minor incident (flew it into an interior door frame as was experimenting with the different control stick options, oops. No harm done other than 1 propeller replacement!) But, since getting the Flip, when they came out and more recently the Neo 2 and Avata, I think my TOTAL flight time is only about 40 mins, so I need to get out and practice a lot more. My confidence levels aren’t as high as they were with the Mini 4k and that had no obstacle avoidance. I feel better in FPV mode but a lot of the time I’m out solo, so restricted to the controller or mobile control on the two smaller drones.

Welcome to the community! Sounds like you’ve got a great little DJI fleet there, and you’re definitely not alone when it comes to confidence taking a dip after a break from flying.

The good news is that your previous experience will come back quickly once you get some stick time under your belt again. The fact you flew a Mini 4K around Cornwall and up to Oban with only a single prop replacement is a pretty good record! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The Avata is a fantastic bit of kit for building confidence in FPV, and having obstacle avoidance on the Flip and Neo 2 gives you an extra safety net while you’re getting back into the groove. Just take it steady, get plenty of battery packs through the air, and those nerves will soon disappear.

Hopefully your daughter catches the drone bug too – that Flip might end up being the perfect aircraft to pass down after all! Happy flying and looking forward to seeing some footage from the North East coast and the Tyne. :helicopter::camera_with_flash:
