Hi All
I’m a new member of the club but have a few hours of flying under my belt. My main issue is that flying from a wheelchair prevents me getting where I want to get to and I find the ‘line of sight’ CAA restriction is very effective at letting my tyres down. Now, let’s make it clear that I am not looking for sympathy, (although there are some wonderful mountain-climbing wheelchairs out there) what I would like it people to realise that I cannot be the only one who is not able to:

  • Climb over styles and fences.
  • Cope with soft ground.
  • Get over a style.
  • Deal with upwards slopes sleeper than 6 degrees.
  • Get up and move discarded rocks, branches, bin-bags and children.
  • Crawl through bushes.
  • Get back out of soft gravel and other similar surfaces on our own.
  • Climb trees to recover wayward drones.

There is a whole load more to it than that, so we really need your help in spreading the word and pointing out some really great accessible places to fly, that are not in our local park!

Once I have checked out what is already available on this site, I will consider setting up an area for everyone to share their wheelchair (and walker) friendly adventures for everyone to share. Until then, remember my favourite motto,

“Happiness is vectored thrust!”

Hi Alan.

I’m in Hull also. Are you after suggestions for wheelchair-friendly sites to fly?

I’m very new to this also but I’m happy to update with sites I’ve found locally. First suggestion - head to Welton Waters. There’s a small gravel parking area just short of the boat club. Ideal for heading up over the ponds, nice open field and only thing to watch for is a few dog walkers/ramblers.

Thank you * [freedoddy]*,
That’s a good site for this list to get the ball rolling. I did a lot of dingy racing when I was in the RAF so it is a great idea for me. When the wet and windy stuff is finished with us, I will definitely take a trip over there.

As you are local to me, I have recently been filming in some of the local graveyards and found the columbarium and Hedon Road Cemetery crematorium quite an interesting challenge. It is right on the edge of a red no-fly zone, so a quick courtesy call to HMP Hull would be a wise decission befor you fly.

@alandennisbrig-ykrvo Welcome to Drone Hub :waving_hand:

Gonna give Hull prison a polite swerve Alan thanks. Been down past there this afternoon, went to Paull. There’s a car park on the front with a big field off to the side of it (although I never know how to get to it) so a nice safe take-off/landing area. Can get up over the trees over Fort Paull and a bit further over is the 2 small lighthouses. Some nice coastline and today was a lovely calm day for it.
