I have a question or rather a need to confirm whether I read the Handbook correctly.
I do not live in the UK, although I signed up as an FPVUK member and got both the operator ID and a flyer ID for myself (and my co-pilot got her flyer ID with CAA directly). I plan to visit the UK with my plane in Summer and conduct a few flying sessions with friends some of whom are completely green. Of course I’ll proceed to drill the basics of safety and CAA limitations before the actual flight, but as per handbook it would seem that it’s possible to let them fly under direct supervision by myself (a member of the club as well as legal flyer/operator).
Relevant handbook part:
Operations of Model Aircraft by non-members under instruction
(1) For the purposes of conducting ‘trial flights’ by non-members, the non-member may
operate the controls of the model aircraft whilst under the direct instruction and
supervision of a member. In such an instance, the remote pilot receiving instruction does
not need to comply with the competence requirements of the authorisation.
(2) The registration requirements and registration display requirements still apply.
This means that the aircraft must carry a valid Operator ID and the person in charge (the
instructor / person supervising the non-member) must be competent (IE they must have a
CAA Flyer ID) and they must be an FPV UK member
Is my interpretation correct?
If it is, does anyone have a go-to spot recomendation in driving distance from London (preferably North side, e.g. Epping Forest) to conduct such flights at? I mean, a large empty area with a hill to maintain good VLoS, low uninvolved people traffic etc. I tried looking at DroneScene, but it’s very hard to judge a place remotel.
