Hi, new user from Guildford, Surrey

Hi all, I’m fairly new to drone flying. I have a Dji Mavic Air and hopefully upgrade to a newer drone soon. Loving every minute of it though :smile:

@Gingerbeard_Man welcome! Also a new user, have you flown Newlands Corner yet?

@Gingerbeard_Man welcome to the forum, I am also new to the hobby etc and not too far from you (I have limited places to fly very locally from what I can ascertain) but Guildford isn’t very far if you have some good spots or potentially want some company.

@callmoo whereabouts is Newlands Corner

Newlands Corner is in the Surrey hills, about 15 mins from Guildford. Lovely landscapes and high elevation so can get really nice views from a drone, free huge car park too so easy TOAL and good VLOS

@callmoo thank you. I will have to pay it a visit

Hi no, not yet. I’ve flown at St Martha’s church, The Mount and Thursley Common board walk. :grin:

Hi Phil, Thursley Common at the Elstead Moat is a good place to fly. Flown there many times. Also The Mount but can be busy at times with people walking by. I’m planning to fly around St Catherines Chapel in Guildford and also want to fly at Leith Hill tower at some point.

@Gingerbeard_Man and @callmoo I went to Newlands Corner this afternoon, it was quite busy up by the cafe and in the higher areas but the lower fields towards the farm had quite a lot of open space with very few people present and very spread out. Picked a nice empty spot and flew for a good while.

Scary how quickly a Potensic Atom becomes a dot as it gets past 120m out. I did take it to 150m and I think that will be my limit in wide open areas but will keep it closer where there are any obstacles.

I will try out some of your other suggestions when the opportunity arises.
