Hi all, New member from Nuneaton

Hi all,

I’m Tom from Hartshill near Nuneaton.
I’m brand new to the world of drones and all that comes with it. I’m on the very of pressing the buy button on my very first drone to begin my journey, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

Hi Tom
Welcome to the Drone Hub!

My advise would be to buy a budget drone, you can get them for under £20… The reason I say this, like me as a beginner you are likely to have one or two mishaps likely resulting in some damage to the drone. Now if this was an expensive drone it will be equally as expensive to repair or worse chuck in the bin as it’s beyond repair!

However, a budget drone isn’t so much of a disaster…

A budget drone will allow you to get the feel of a drone and learn the basics of how they work etc…

While they are budget, they are nowhere near as good as a more expensive drone, and the more you pay the more functionality etc they have as well as they perform and handle sooo much better!

Now I know there are those who would say it’s a waste of money to get a cheap drone for less then £20, I can understand that but my point is about learning the basics without putting loads of money at risk!

It’s up to you, I started with cheap ones and got a couple of better ones after getting the hang of it. While still not the best pilot, I have far less mishaps!

Happy flying

Hi Tom

My advice is always DJI. It doesn’t matter what model, but stick with DJI.

If you buy something else you will be disappointed and potentially put yourself off the whole thing. However, with a DJI drone you will be impressed.

The Mini range is very popular because they are all under 250g so you can fly them virtually anywhere, and you don’t need a flyer ID.

The most popular amongst our members (and in general, as far as I know) is the Mini 4 Pro.

You can also pick up other lesser versions for less money.

You might like to see our handbook.fpv.uk and do the CofC Practical exercises too. These are available in video form in our YouTube. https://youtu.be/njwiDjITUVM?si=ggNzhgJPahEWK7xE and https://youtu.be/NGtOKqbk-Fw?si=MAIM9EjLJI9DDixi

Any questions just ask.

There are rumours of a Mini 5 Pro coming imminently. This would make sense judging by how long the Mini 4 Pro has been out, and that it has been discounted lately. Just bear that in mind.

I think for myself being brand new to all this I could quickly get overwhelmed with so many features that these drone have, it’s crazy but also exciting to be able to learn them.

Thanks for the info, Me being me I like to push the boundaries of what I can get out of my hobbies and interests, so yes I think the MIni 4 Pro would be perfect I’m sure I would end up adding to the drone collection at some point anyway.

Hi Simon, are you able to have 2 public liability insurances or can they both be registered with the CAA ? I’m a member of another well known drone club with public liability but I wanted to take out a membership FPV to take advantage of the commercial and EU part of the insurance. Thanks

Hi Tom

There’s no requirement to notify the CAA of your insurance provider, particularly for non-commercial insurance. (There is an ‘Insurance’ field on your CAA operator ID registration page I realise, but it is not a mandatory field).

Thanks

Simon
