Having a Spot of Bother!

With my RM TX15 Max - Throttle just will NOT go down to zero!

The thing just refuses to go down, ergo it will not let me arm it!

I’ve tried everything I can think of and a few things from everyone’s mate Google, all to no avail! I’ve calibrated the gimbals, manually set them to as low as they’ll go even used the Alen key to set the low stop as low as that will go!

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I’ve even removed all model files from the SD card and started again

Sounds like a calibration issue - no?

Also, make sure you haven’t got that channel reversed. That would also do it.

Thanks Simon, I’ll have a look…

@SimonDale - I checked the calibration, aligned all trims to zero, sticks to centre and went through the calibration steps. tried again, no change.

As mentioned, I’ve removed all old models and everything from the SD card and started from scratch, I’m pulling what’s left of my hair out!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated…

TIA

trims on the side of the radio down to zero?

Yep, all down to zero. even set them all high, then recalibrated and moved them down, shows on radio at zero. no change. betaflight still shows 988 or something. restarted error on screen, throttle not set to zero!

Added SF to over-ride ch3-thr = -100

Guess what, no change even after restart!

Shot in the dark here but based on a similar issue in iNav, uninstall and reinstalling resolved it.

It might be worth installing iNav to test it and if the problem persists you’ll know where to look.

Thanks mate, I’ll give it a go…

OK! So this is sorted! - How? I hear someone say…

Well, it was a simple tip from Will @FlyingTech When calibrating the gimbals, don’t pull/push too hard against the stops! I.E. don’t hit the stops, just move the sticks so the image of the said stick goes down but not to the very start/end of the movement range!

Sorted, my controller now show no error on start-up.

But it does lead on to the next… It will not Arm! I have Arm setup on Ch5/Aux1 and a Mode entry. BetaFlight ‘Sees’ the activation of Ch5/Aux1 but does not arm the drone.

Yes, I’ve removed the USB cable from the FC and tried several times, I’ve even removed the battery and USB cable to do a hard restart. NO change!

In iNav arming is enabled only after there’s sufficient number of satellites for navigation, it might be the same for BetaFlight.

Hi mate
Yes BF does that too, but you can turn it off by selecting another action in Failsafe. I@ll double check it’s disabled…

Have you tried by being outside the house to get the max number satellites the flight controller will beep to let you know it’s ready to Arm. Otherwise
It won’t work from failsafe, it needs to be done from the config tab by disabling GPS.

First Go to CLI and “Diff All” then save to a folder on your computer, go back and disable GPS, save and reboot and now you should be able to Arm. Having done that you now know it does arm, once you’re ready upload your file backup save and reboot.

What error is shown on the goggles when you try to arm? Betaflight will not arm if the USB is connected.

Thanks for the replies guys, I’ve been busy… Gonna fire it up and see how things go now… WIll report back in a bit…

I did mention that earlier, but thanks for the reminder…

Sorry, must have missed it. I’ve been catching up after a manic few weeks.

Did you get goggles connected and see what warning is displayed?

No warning, just ‘Air’ which I guess is air mode, which would indicate to me that it should be good to go…

When BF is connected, the arm option works find, as in you can see the telem on the RX tab. When you disconnect BF and do the same, nothing happens. The motors spin up when testing in BF everything appears ok, but no arm.

I’m sure I’m missing something simple, but just can’t but a finger on it…

Update - Sorted, ARMED & ready to fly!

Time permitting I’ll be testing this one tomorrow. I’ve yet to add the props, that’s first job in the morning, if I don’t do them tonight! I will definitely test tomorrow with the props, I’m only interested in getting it to a hover for it’s maiden flight. I may have to tweak some settings/tune a little. But time will tell…

Then I want to get the GPS installed and working.

I still haven’t decided where to mount the battery/batteries. I have 2x 6000mAh, I’m thinking of one on top, one underneath…

Many thanks to ALL who have offered help and advice to help get this one working, I think the others should be a bit easier going forward… At least, I hope so!

@Njoro @jpmreece @SimonDale And anyone I’ve missed! Thanks

What was the issue?!

Modes, well, none to be more accurate. I hadn’t defined any modes for Angle and horizon, and no one mentioned them. So as a beginner I was unaware they were required…

Still test flight later today. Hopefully it goes well…
