Hi, I’m looking for some advice in getting into the FPV side of flying drones. I’m into catching cinematic footage and up till now I have a DJI Air 3s but I love how FPV drone cinematic footage looks. Is the Avata 2 a good drone to begin with ? Thanks !!
In the same boat to a degree, maybe one step aghead.
Have a couple of cinematic drones and wanted to dip my toe into FPV so went for the smaller Neo MOTION as it comes with goggles etc. Did find the motion controller, while fun, a bit limiting as it cant do full manual. So just ordered an FPV controller 3 which will allow full manual. Should be here tomorrow ![]()
Can’t comment on the Avata as I have never flown one but do hear good things.
From what I gather though most of the more serious FPV’ers go for kit built drones with Air modules to suit the radio they have.
This is all alien to me lol. I just love the cinematic footage that you can capture from normal drones and FPV. I currently have a DJI Air 3s and I love it. But I’m just always looking to learn new stuff and push myself and my bank balance lol.
Have an Air 3s too it’s a great drone.
The whole FPV world seems to be much more Hobby’ist with people mixing and matching components from different manufacturers.
Aside of the relatively few off the shelf offerings like the Neo, Avata, Betafpv Cetus etc. Most FPV’ers seem to go for extreme performance kit built drones. Using radios and camera systems from different suppliers.
DJI do make camera only air modules to work with their own goggles that can be fitted to your own drone. Radio’s too are a mix n match of diffrent brands of receiver and flight / motor controllers. Some are combined modules that do all.
Looks like a lot of fun especially if your a bit ‘techy’ !
Not ventured any further yet myself than a Neo, Goggles N3 and FPV controller 3
But I do see a rabbit hole…
I’m getting drawn back to fixed wing FPV for a change, I just need to get out to the flying club..
I thought I’d try the TBS Chupito, is there anyone flying fixed wing FPV on here?
It’s great fun. A rabbit hole though.
I started with a Dark Star 20, which is now a frankendrone from crashing too much! Decide on a video system first then build! You’ll need to experience when you need to repair it.
I haven’t flown my DJI since I started FPV.
My DJI Neo will fly full manual as along as I use the FPV controller 3 which I have along with the DJI goggles. So that’s my startting point. It’s not the most ballistic FPV drone but that’s probably a good thing as a new starter to FPV.
Next step though is a build, plan to stay digital as I have the goggles etc so looks like the camera will be one of the DJI O4 air modules.
As to drone the current window shoping favourite is the Pavo20 Pro 04
But I need to learn to fly first so it’s a sim and the Neo for now !
My lad just built a Pico. It’s not flown yet though. He’s excited.
