Article 16 operations authentication in Europe

So here is my question, as members of FPV UK are we able to use article 16 in Spain and the rest of Europe. Why I hear you ask, well ile tell you . My drone is 249g & that is fine but in order to fly in low light I attach the appropriate strobe lights, Red- Port / Green- Starboard & white- Rear. This increases visibility and orientation assessment BUT it puts the drone overweight, this is where Article 16 becomes useful.
Any help would be appreciated.

@Reg As I understand it it covers flying in the UK only (unless a member can confirm otherwise), in any event you may need a Flyer/Operator ID from a European country to fly over there.

Of course the Public Liability cover you have with FPV will cover you in Europe which is a separate thing.

Geographical Limits: Permanent residents of the UK, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man will be covered anywhere
in the UK, EU plus Norway and Switzerland.

I have a flyer and operator I’d for Europe, I have the Royal decreed Enair drone app as I intend to fly responsibly, all legalities are covered but I’m curious about the Article 16.

Hi @Reg

Since Brexit, anything issued by the UK authorities (operator ID, flyer ID, article 16 operational authorisation) is valid only in the UK.

However, if your drone is C0 (or C1) marked, it can be flown in exactly the same way as a sub-250g drone now in the UK, despite it being over 250g (up to 900g in the case of C1).

The same thing will be true in the UK too come 01/01/2026.
