I’ve been reading and seeing videos about the 120m max height. I’ve seen conflicting opinions whether that height is 120m from the home (take off) point or the distance between the drone and the surface beneath it. So for example if I wanted to fly my drone from the top of a cliff that was 200m from the valley floor would the drone descend to 120m when if flew it over the edge of the cliff? If it remained at the height relative to the take off point then once over the edge of the cliff it would be well over 200m from the ground beneath it….. as the drones software restricts its height (in some cases), It would be good to know without risking a drone trying it. Thoughts?
No, it’ll fly 120mtrs from the home point, should be able to adjust max height to 500mtrs on the controller
@Steevo5 @ShaunB DJI has rolled out a hard limit of 120 Meters maximum altitude limit on all C0 classification drones this is the mini 4pro,Mini 5pro and the Neo 2. Here is the clip from ininLondon https://youtu.be/-9ICPw4pVqQ?si=b2H3Ptcz9Ows9fGs
Ah ok… so I’m not flying my C0 drone of Beachy Head then..
Also max speed restrictions on some DJI drones have been implemented. Lopped almost 20 mph off the top speed of an Air 3S ![]()
This will be the C marking (which is identical to the UK marking).
To be able to fly these drones ‘over People’ (A1) and ‘near people’ (A2) they have to meet the requirements of the C ratings / UK ratings. That includes having 120m maximum altitude, and have a maximum speed.
On the plus side, you can now fly C1 marked drones, which can be up to 900g, virtually anywhere. (Over People A1)
It’s from the take off point. So if you are on top of a cliff and take off it will climb to 393 feet. You would also be able to go down the cliff face as far as you want and it will climb up past your take off point up to 393 feet. Does not make a lot of sense really.
That’s good to know, I had visions of my drone hovering below me half way down a cliff face with no way to recover it …..
Only some drones check your drone settings
Nah I’m maxed out at 120m, just have to make the best of it.
I’m still very much a novice but to my way of thinking,if a drone on RTH comes back to the point of take off, that’s where the 120m would be measured from. However,I wouldn’t want to test my theory on a 500 ft cliff!
When I’ve done it I’ll let you know! ![]()
