I’d really like to add a strobe to my drone for night flying.
But where to mount it?
Ideally I’d like it on the bottom rear, which might be okay to use Velcro on the bottom of the battery, but then it would hit the ground when landing.
I could attach it to the legs with bands, but might look odd with just one one it, and don’t really want to add two because of the weight.
Are there any solutions anyone has found?
@PixaaTog I mounted mine on the top at the rear using 3M Dual Lock. It kept it clear of the ground when landing, didn’t interfere with the sensors or gimbal, and was easy to remove when I didn’t need it. I only used a single strobe to keep the weight down rather than adding two for symmetry.
I’ve since upgraded to the DJI Mini 5 Pro, so I no longer need that setup, but it worked perfectly on my previous drone.
Yes the idea is so that I can see it better at night, so not sure top mounting would help with that.
Does the 5 come with built in strobes (yes I know the 4 has, but they are a bit weedy and go off when recording video.
@PixaaTog The Mini 5 Pro does have built-in navigation lights, and they’re noticeably brighter than the Mini 4 Pro’s. The good news is they also stay on while recording video, unlike the Mini 4 Pro where they switch off. That said, if you’re after maximum visibility at night, an external strobe mounted on top is still the best option as it’s much easier to see from a distance.
The idea of putting a strobe to your Mini 4pro sounds great but in reality you are pushing the weight over the sub 249g so you wouldn’t be flying legally.
Yes having the strobe fitted would increase your overall VLOS and seeing where you drone is at night ,but doing so will increase the weight of your drone.

But not what I was asking.
Under the drone code and guidelines from CAA we have a responsibility to ensure that all drone flights are as safe as possible.
So it’s either make the night flight as safe as possible or worry about a couple of grams over the weight limit?
In the unlikely event that someone from the CAA appeared from behind a bush and wanted to weigh my drone, I believe I could justify the extra weight as it means of safety and unless that inspector is a complete jobsworth I believe they would say okay fair enough.
Do you see my point?
Gee that’s a real dilemma?
I’m pretty sure I know which one I’ll choose.

I currently fly both the mini 4pro and the mini 5pro and have never needed a extra light sorce for flying at night. I find the flashing green lights on both drones to be enough for VLOS and i wear glasses as i am short sighted. But if you are struggling to see the your drone at night even without the aid of a srobe then maybe you shouldn’t be flying at night?
We all know there is a huge amount of responsibilities of flying in general in the daytime trying to keep your drone in VLOS, but flying at night the risk is tenfold because you are solely relying on the drones lights for VLOS.
And i prefer not to do a lot of night flights because of the risk factor is more.
With due respect I’m not asking for a debate on the legalities or to have my eyesight questioned which is 20/20 with glasses.

Yep, I have mine attached with 3M Dual Lock tape to the underside rear of my Mini 4 Pro. I’m using a VIFLY Strobe Platinum.
It works fine there, and as you say it will touch the ground, but it’s not an issue as it sort of levels-up the drone when it’s on the ground. It also means if I want to change the strobe pattern/colour I just have to gently press the top of the drone near the rear, as this then presses down on the strobe’s power button.
I’m not bothered by the weight increase as mine’s a C1 version.
