Hi All. I’m supposed to be going on holiday to North West Wales in about a months time. Looking at the drone maps for the area around Barmouth and North of there, it appears as though the whole coast is covered in flight restrictions, in fact pretty much all around that coast and up past Anglesey. Am I reading that correctly?
I wanted to take some video of my nephew kite surfing, but looks like we are going to struggle for somewhere that I can fly the drone where he can surf.
If anyone can please give me some pointers on these drone maps, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Romer
Well that looks a PITA, it seems most of the Welsh coast is an SSSI.
It looks alright to me.
Some yellow areas to be aware of, but they don’t prevent you flying.
If you’re intending to fly in a danger area (for example EGD217E LLANBEDR), then just make sure it isn’t active. It is not active now (yellow, rather than red) and it’s not NOTAMed to be active in the near future (if it was it would be blue).
probably studying the Welsh ![]()

Thanks Simon. I obviously need to get my head around exactly what the different coloured zones are. It doesn’t help that I’m partially colour-blind, so slight differences in colour tones to me are difficult to see.
